How long have we worked together?

We have worked together since 2011

RZSS Edinburgh Zoo is the largest wildlife attraction in Scotland welcoming over 550,000 visitors 365 days per year

Quick Facts:

The partnership between RZSS Edinburgh Zoo and Levy UK is responsible for all the catering outlets at the Zoo including the Grasslands Restaurant, Jungle Food Court and Penguins Café.

Client Objectives

Levy UK were tasked with rejuvenating the catering operations at Edinburgh Zoo whose primary goal was establishing the food and drink offer as a key part to the visitor experience.

As part of the project, Levy UK refurbished and rebranded the existing catering outlets to have a high-street look and feel taking inspiration from the main animal habitats represented at the Zoo: rainforest, grasslands, woodland, oceans and wetland.

As part of commitment to conservation and sustainable sourcing, our team has worked to achieve the Food for Life Served Here award, supported by the Scottish Government.

100% of the fish served is sustainable and the restaurant never uses fish that is on the Marine Conservation Society ‘fish to avoid’ list.

Local food suppliers are prominent on the Grasslands Restaurant menu and include: tea and coffee, from Edinburgh merchants, Brodies; ice cream and dairy from Mackie’s of Scotland; butchery products from Campbells Meat; fruit and vegetables from Mark Murphy & Partner Ltd; and bread from The Breadwinner Bakery.

Became the first zoo in the UK to be awarded the Soil Association’s Food for Life Catering Mark. Recognised for the commitment to ethical, sustainable and fresh food; the award guarantees that visitors are eating meals which are freshly prepared, healthy and sustainable.  For our food story, click here (INFOGRAPHIC PDF)
